Canvey Railway And Model Engineering Club

The club enjoys a membership of around 80 like-minded individuals with the common interest of “Model Engineering” – we are not just for railway enthusiasts. If you make model boats, traction engines, stationary engines, hot air engines, clocks or anything else with moving parts then the club may be of interest to you. All levels of model-making skills are found among the members, ranging from experts to beginners, while some simply enjoy models and the company of model makers. Club members willingly assist each other with advice on how to solve most problems when building a new model. Our aim is to promote and encourage model engineering and related pastimes. However, many of our member’s interest lies in the construction and operation of miniature working steam or electric locomotives, and so there is a strong bias in the provision of railway related facilities. As a means of demonstrating and enjoying their skills and models, the members have built two miniature passenger-carrying railways – a 1440 ft elevated dual 3.5 and 5 inch gauge track and a 3500ft ground-level dual 5 and 7.25 inch gauge track, together with related infrastructure such as stations, turntables, bridges, etc . Summer Sundays we open to the public, when rides are available on both tracks - 1st Sunday in April until the 2nd Sunday in October, 10.30am to 4.00pm
